Celebrating International Day of UN Peacekeepers 2020

Published by ISAFIS on

The first UN Peacekeeping in 1948 mission was named “United Nations Truce Supervision Organization”, or UNTSO, and operated in Palestine. Since that first mission, 3900 military, police, and civilian personnel have lost their lives in the service of peace as a result of acts of violence, accidents, and disease. On this date, UN offices, alongside member states and non-governmental organizations, hold solemn events to honour fallen peacekeepers.

May this day be a reminder for us to show our gratitude for those who demonstrate exceptional courage in fulfilling the mandate of their missions. For those, who even in the face of extreme dangers, keep marching on in the service of humanity and the United Nations.
