Private Documentation From Layla

“It was the first IW that I’ve ever participated and it was already really amazing! The activities there were so fun and very well organized. There were country presentations, company visits, games and challenges, yet many more!

However, the most memorable thing for me was the International dinner where everyone cooked their own national dish. I cooked Nasi Goreng for them that night. Thank goodness they liked it even when I thought it was too spicy for them LOL.

Another highlight, for me, was the cultural exploration. I really like that IW Istanbul this year emphasizes on exploring different aspects of culture. Istanbul is a city full of cultural and historical features. There are many places to visit, even you can already feel it by only walking around the street.

Private Documentation From Layla

So, we did a lot of visits to places, such as Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, Topkapi Palace, and the Grand Bazaar while having some shopping as well there. Not only places, we also tried Turkish traditional bath which is called Hamam.

Another thing was the foods that they provided us, especially the Turkish dinner where we had a very fancy typical Turkish authentic Kebab with Turkish traditional atributes.

Last thing about this IW is that I feel like we had a really good group of people in IW Istanbul this year. All the organisers are so kind. I really felt their hospitality, especially from my host.

Private Documentation From Layla

Yet, all the participants are so friendly. I really felt connected to everyone of them. But it seems like both organisers and participants were having a good connection with one another. There were no seperate groups in the circle, we bonded really well. We even felt like we are already a family. All and all, IW Istanbul was really amazing. I had an unbelievably great time there. It was one of the best week of my life.”

Yet, we still have many International Week upcoming which can be joined by every Indonesian students who want to join. Keep updated with us and follow our instagram account @isafis_official !

Jakarta Model United Nations (JMUN)

About Jakarta Model United Nations

Jakarta Model United Nations (JMUN) is the biggest International Model United Nations (MUN) in Indonesia which first-ever held in the capital city of Republic of Indonesia, Jakarta, by ISAFIS (Indonesian Students Association for International Studies) in 2011.

Jakarta MUN offers the opportunity to experience the challenges of international negotiation and diplomacy. In Jakarta MUN, participants will act as a representative from the particular country then discuss international issues like the process that occurs at a UN conference. Throughout the conference, delegates will gain insight into the workings of the United Nations by actively participating in the resolution of important global issues.

The first session of the Jakarta MUN was held in 2011. Jakarta MUN 2011 successfully attracted more than 300 delegates ranging from local universities to foreign universities. It marked a new era for MUN conferences in Indonesia. Since then, Jakarta MUN is held annually. Eight sessions of Jakarta MUN have successfully brought changes for youth in spreading the ideas and values of diplomacy as well as developing knowledge of the issues. This has made Jakarta MUN as an international phenomenon. Jakarta MUN itself has many programs besides the conferences, such as the MUN 101, cultural and charity ball, and social night.

Jakarta MUN participants do not only hail from major cities in Indonesia, but also from various countries like USA, UK, India, New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Laos, Philippines, Thailand, Ghana and many more.

JMUN 2019

Jakarta Model United Nations 2019

Jakarta Model United Nations 2019 is the 9th annual session of Jakarta Model United Nations held by ISAFIS. This year, JMUN held starts from 1st until 4th of August 2019 in Jakarta. This year theme is “Strengthening Global Cooperation in The Face of Isolationalism”.

Committee Session

Through this year’s theme, JMUN invites the youth to discuss the current trend of global shift into isolationism through various aspects. Delegates will strive to find ways to increase global cooperation. We chose this theme because international cooperation is at risk because of the unwillingness of states to continue cooperating on humanitarian efforts. This phenomenon is exemplified in how in the last few years some states that are acknowledged as global powers resign from international organizations and treaties due to domestic political shift and dynamics. Another issue that is still yet to be solved is that cooperation efforts lack of inclusivity and participation from non-state actors.

This theme is also inspired by Sustainable Development Goals number 17 which is Partnership for the Goals, which puts effort to enhance cooperation and global partnership to support and reach the ambitious target of the 2030 Agenda, which tries to unite governments, the international community, the private sector, and the people themselves in realizing all of the Sustainable Development Goals. Despite progress in various sectors, improvements must be made to accelerate progress. All stakeholders should refocus and further intensify their efforts in sectors which experience slow development.

With that in mind, we hope that through this year’s conference we could highlight the importance of global cooperation in humanitarian efforts that not only involve governments, but also other actors such as international organizations, NGOs, and the people especially youths to discuss and found the role and actions that could be taken by the youth to improve cooperation in an increasing trend for isolationism, to find a common ground for all nations that want to ensure stability and protection from global threats for its citizens. We also hope that the youth will also be able to further understand the dynamics on the interaction of nations on the international stage, with every country in each council that is available in JMUN having different powers, mandates, and agendas.
